GSM visas are a type of Australian visa that allows skilled workers to live and work in a country. The GSM program is divided into two components: permanent residency and provisional (temporary) residency.
The permanent residency component includes three subclasses:
Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
This visa is for skilled workers who have an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List and meet the points test requirements.
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
This visa is for skilled workers who have an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List, have been sponsored by a State or Territory government, and meet the points test requirements.
Skilled Regional Visa (Subclass 491): A Skilled Regional Visa is designed to encourage skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia for a period of up to five years. A state or territory government or a relative living in a designated area is required to sponsor an applicant.
In addition, if you meet all of its eligibility requirements, you may be able to apply for permanent residence in Australia through the subclass 191 Permanent Residence (skilled regional) visa.
The provisional residency component includes two subclasses:
Graduate Temporary (Subclass 485) Visa
This visa is for students who have completed at least two years of study in Australia in the last six months and are looking to gain work experience in their field of study. It is intended for international students who have recently graduated with skills and qualifications that are relevant to some of the occupations that Australia needs to fill. It allows you to live, study, and work temporarily in Australia.
Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 476
This visa is for skilled workers who have an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List and meet the points test requirements and have been nominated for a regional area.
To apply for any of the GSM visas, you need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Skill Select system. The EOI will be assessed based on your skills, experience, and other factors, and you will receive an invitation to apply for the visa if you meet the criteria. These visas typically require applicants to have a job offer from an Australian employer, demonstrate their English language proficiency, and pass the relevant medical and character checks.
The visa application process can be complex, and it's important to seek professional advice to ensure you meet all the requirements and submit a complete and accurate application.
